Left Bank Books is perfect.
I am a huge fan. Some online reviews noted the books were a bit overpriced and I would agree for the most part, but some editions I found are truly priceless. I found this amazing book (priced at $85) but with my ban on buying books I couldn’t buy it:
Strand Bookstore. One word? Meh. Need some synonyms? Blarg. Eh. Underwhelming. Overrated.
It’s big. It has books. It’s a bookstore. On a scale of Barnes and Noble in Tribeca to Three Lives, I give it an independent public college book store rating. Worth noting: it’s one of the world’s largest used bookstores. Strand’s slogan is “18 Miles of Books”. One of the reasons I like Three Lives is the small but choice selection of books. Strand seems to care more about quantity than quality.
Anyways, the best thing about Strand are the reviews on Yelp. I’ll let them speak for themselves.
I wrote a little bit about Stonewall the other day, but here is the trailer for the new Stonewall Uprising film. Lou Reed fan? Read the story about his massive hit “Walk on the Wild Side” on Wikipedia, then click through to see information about the other Warhol Superstars. Most were at least indirectly involved with the Stonewall Riots.
A great book about Stonewall: Stonewall, The Riots That Sparked the Gay Revolution.
Obviously, prejudices against gays still run rampant (proof here) (and here). You can contribute to the cause by volunteering with or donating to foundations such as the Human Rights Campaign and GLAAD.

Everybody’s crazy. It’s just a matter of picking the crazy that works for you.
