Strand Bookstore

Posted in book porn by Lauren Leto on May 14, 2010

Strand Bookstore. One word? Meh. Need some synonyms? Blarg. Eh. Underwhelming. Overrated.

It’s big. It has books. It’s a bookstore. On a scale of Barnes and Noble in Tribeca to Three Lives, I give it an independent public college book store rating. Worth noting: it’s one of the world’s largest used bookstores. Strand’s slogan is “18 Miles of Books”. One of the reasons I like Three Lives is the small but choice selection of books. Strand seems to care more about quantity than quality.

Anyways, the best thing about Strand are the reviews on Yelp. I’ll let them speak for themselves.

agreed, even as far as used book stores, it doesn’t have the best selection; there a great quantity of the same book then having different books on the same subject. Of the better used book stores, none of them are in NYC.

    2 great ones:
    Book Barn in Niantic, CT
    Powells in Portland, OR
