How Did I Not Know Of This?

The Literature Map

Insert a name of an author and find authors similar in their writings.

I chose Dostoyevsky. Looking for Milosz. Did not get him. Instead got all these guys (the closer two authors are, the more likely a reader will like them both):

Eh. I don’t know. So not a Mann fan and I’m such a huge Rand fan. I know many people who do not like both Orwell and Huxley. Also, I would group J.D. Salinger closer to Kerouac and Vonnegut.

Just tried this out–doesn’t seem very accurate. McCarthy was pretty far from Faulkner, his most admired and acknowledged influence, and some distance from William Gay, his closest imitator.

C.S.Lewis right next to Sartre? Odd.

Herman Hesse next do Camus, haha. This “The Literature Map” is fucked up.

Regarding Vonnegut – agreed. He’s my favorite but no matter how hard I try, I can’t dig Kerouac.

There are two different spellings for the same author that are not really close to eachother on the map (middle initials with and without the “.”), leads me to believe this isn’t very accurate.
